Book Reviews

I love reading memoirs because they contain true stories of people who've overcome something tremendous and gone on to be successful.  I love getting inside their world- a world, I otherwise would know nothing about.  I've recently finished a few that I would highly recommend.

Escape by Carolyn Jessop:  This story about a woman who is trapped and eventually escapes the confines of a radical polygamist community was so eye-opening to me.  I had no idea what goes on in many of these communities.  It made me angry, sad and compassionate towards the women and children in these circumstances.

Sick Girl by Amy Silverstein:  I just finished this book this morning after just a couple days.  It's about a young girl who gets a heart transplant at age 24.  I always thought that after someone gets a heart transplant, they are pretty much better, but this book revealed that I was so wrong.  It's brutally honest and begins with her desire to commit suicide despite having survived with a transplanted heart for 17 years.  I really had no idea how hard it can be to be a "survivor."  It's also a beautiful love story and I actually cried when her husband proposed.

"The Middle Place" by Kelly Corrigan:  This is the story of a mother of two who survives breast cancer.  It is very candid and it really reminded me to be grateful for all that I have.

If anyone has suggestions, let me know.  I'm always up for a good read.

My Day

Saturday, March 28

6:00 am: Woke up to get ready for work.  (Actually was able to get dressed with the lights on because Jermie had migrated downstairs at some point during the night.)  Amazingly, I was ready for work 10 minutes early.  Maybe I should have spent more time getting ready, because after I was at work for a couple hours, I realized this:

Yes, I had worn 2 different shoes to work.  Had a good laugh anyway, but was a little self-conscious the rest of my shift.

12:30  Got home from work and helped the boys paint their paper mache robot, "Robotic Fred" (I mistakenly called him "Robot Fred" and was quickly corrected by Jacob).

2:00 (approx):  Jacob turns on the hose by the side of the house and forgets about it.

5:00: Frantic call from Jermie to come home (from my Mom's house where I'm having a fabulous girl's lunch) before he hurts our firstborn.

5:30:  Jacob is sent to his room and found in this position shortly thereafter.  Hard to be mad at him when I look at this.  But somehow I still am.... a little.

It is now 6:45 and I'm ready to rent a movie and eat some chocolate.  Good night!

Family Pictures

My amazing friend Michelle (Rusty Bucket Photography) took these family pictures for us last week.  I think they turned out so cute.  I can't wait to print them and get them up in my house!

Conversation with Jacob

Jacob:  "Mom, am I going to get adopted."
Me: "No, of course not. Do you want to go live with another family?"
Jacob: (In a very calm voice:) "I just can't take it anymore."
Me:  "You can't take what, Jacob?"
Jacob: "Bob"

Really Glad We Moved the Crib Down...

On Saturday, I had Jermie move the crib down to the lower setting (I've been nagging him to do it for a while) because Bethany is starting to get more mobile and I was worried about her falling out.   That same day, she learned how to go from crawling to sitting by herself.  Then yesterday, we put her to bed and about 10 minutes later heard her screaming hysterically.  I went to check on her and she was standing up holding on to the side of the crib.  She was so scared because she didn't know how to get down.  So, for once my nagging paid off...

After MUCH weeping and wailing...

Jacob is riding his new 2-wheeler bike.   Several days ago, we decided that he was too big to be riding a bike with training wheels.  He threw the biggest fit about taking the training wheels off his bike, but yesterday he just picked it up and rode off down the street.  Today, we decided to get him a new bike because his other one was too small for him.   Now Kyle has the old bike with the training wheels reattached.  The boys are both pretty battered from the days lessons, but they are doing really well on their new "rides."

First Chorus Concert

Last week, Jacob had his first Lindon Elementary School Chorus performance.  He loves singing in the choir and gets very into the choreography!

Handsome Kyle

On Tuesday, Kyle's preschool (our neighborhood one) had a Fancy Clancy/Fancy Nancy Party.  They got all dressed up and worked on manners.  Amy did such a good job and took these cute pictures.

First Haircut

I finally decided that Bethany's hair was out of control and needed a little trim (Her hair was getting so long that she would lose all the curl in her pig-tails and they'd fall flat every day).  I took her to Aspen Salon where my hairdresser Sharolyn worked her magic.  She was really good and didn't squirm too much.   I just love her little bangs she has now.

The finished product...

Oh, of all the pictures

I was tagged on my friend Patty's blog.

The instructions were as follows:

1. Go to your My Documents/My Pictures
2. Go to your sixth file folder
3. Go to your sixth picture
4. Blog about it
5. Tag 6 people

I seriously laughed out loud when I saw the picture.  This is Jacob when he was first getting potty trained.  I thought it was so cute how he could put on his own pull up and be so independent.  I was very tempted to take picture of him sitting on the potty too, but luckily for him, I refrained.

I tag Robyn, Jessica G, Emery, Lea, Angie, and Michelle K.

Super Sweet

Jermie took these pictures a couple weeks ago at church on his i-Phone.  I just got around to getting them off his computer.
