"Monk-ish" Tendencies

I LOVE the show Monk.  If you haven't seen it, you really should check it out. It's about an obsessive compulsive detective who solves crimes by picking up on the little details that everyone else misses.  It is hilarious.  Anyway, lately Kyle has been displaying some OCD traits so Jermie and I joke that he has "Monk-ish tendencies."

For example, the other day we were eating pancakes and he kept trying to reach the syrup.  I was getting really annoyed because he already had syrup on his pancake and he kept reaching over me.  Finally he grabbed it and said "Mom, I don't want more syrup, I just need to close the lid!"

Today I gave him some applesauce and I told him not to get stressed out if the entire foil part didn't come off the top.  (Because it does totally stress him out!) There was a little tiny sliver of foil stuck on the side of the applesauce and worked and worked at peeling it off before he would eat it.  He also gets really upset if I don't rip the top off his Go-gurt in a perfectly straight line. I've started using scissors to avoid the tantrums.

I just love Kyle- quirks and all.

Fun on a shoestring

Last Saturday, we went up to the West Valley rec center (after seeing how fun it looked on another blog!) The boys spent a few minutes on the climbing wall (my pictures of that didn't turn out very well) then we went the the "Edutainment" section where they have a play grocery store, video games, a giant play area with a space theme and much more. The kids thought it was great.

Then we went swimming. Jacob went down the big slide over and over. We finally convinced Kyle to go down it only to find out he's too short. Bethany loved sitting in the water and watching all the action. She had her thumb in her mouth the entire time.

I couldn't believe how cheap it was for truly a whole day of entertainment. I think it was less than $10 for our whole family. To top it off, we went to Chili's afterwards and used a gift card we got for Christmas (thanks z&k!). It was a really fun day!

I'm a fan!

Today I went down to the Sunflower Farmer's Market in Orem. If you haven't been there and you're picturing an outdoor market, it's really more like a health food/grocery store. (It's not like we're in LA and can have an outdoor market year round.) I just love that place! Apparently, on Wednesdays, they have "double ad day" where the ad from the previous week and the current week are both in effect. It was CRAZY. (One woman actually put her green beans in my cart and started walking away with it because she wasn't really paying attention- Not usually a big problem, except Bethany was in it- The lady was really embarrassed and we had a good laugh about it.)

Some highlights of my good deals are:
Asparagus: 1 lb/ 88cents
Cantaloupe: $1.00
Green leaf lettuce: 77 cents
Red Grapes: 88 cents/lb

Everything I've ever gotten there has been exceptionally good too. About a month ago, we got the best blueberries and blackberries for 88 cents/container. Anyway, just wanted to share my tasty find.

Cute Cousins

This cute picture was taken just before Christmas.  These are all the cousins on my side of the family.

Sledding

Yesterday, we went sledding up at Tibble Fork in AF Canyon.  It was very cold, but the boys had a great time.  Bethany actually enjoyed it until the last few minutes when she got cold.  Here are a few pics and a video.  And now I can check it off my list (I feel like a bad parent if I don't take them at least once a year, but I really kind of hate taking all the gear then standing in the snow freezing).

Valentine Projects

While we were eating steak dinner last night, the kids feasted on some heart shaped pizzas- YUM!

On Friday, we decided to make rice krispy treats.  The boys pushed them into heart shaped cookie cutters then put red sprinkles on them.  They turned out so cute and it was a really fun project.

Happy Love Day!

For Valentine's Day, we decided to have a family adult only dinner at my parent's house.  Kamille did all the decorations and place settings (amazing, of course) and all of us brought something to share.   It turned out to be so much fun!  We enjoyed dinner and tried to see who knew the most about our Mom & Dad (turns out it's NOT Zach) then we laughed our heads off playing "The Newlywed Game."   The grand prize winners (of a box of Hot Tamales) were.... drum-roll please... Brooke and Jorge!  Overall, a very fun evening.  (Wish I'd taken more pictures!)

Bath Time!

Bethany Waving

Bethany has started waving within the last couple weeks.  It is so cute.  She waves to me every morning when I get her out of bed.  I couldn't catch it on video, but she also waves with her fingers when her thumb is in her mouth- so cute!

Happy Birthday Jer!

Since today is Jermie's 32nd birthday, I thought I'd list 32 things that I love about my hubbie.  Here goes:

1. He takes out the trash even when it's cold and snowy outside.
2. He plays with the boys nonstop when he walks in the door.
3. When he does or says something funny and I ask him to do it again he always does.
4. He never complains that our house is messy (even when it is!)
5. He eats everything I cook without complaining (even if it's not good).
6. He hardly ever spends money without talking to me first.
7. He's kind of like a little old man in some ways- He loves model trains and loves to talk trains with all the old retired guys at the conventions.
8. He is dedicated & ambitious.  When he wants to accomplish something, he goes for it until he achieves it.
9. He is a good cook.
10. He makes pancakes, waffles and ableskevers for the boys on Saturday mornings.
11. He never complains about getting up early (He leaves for work around 6:00)
12. He helps me see the big picture about things instead of focusing on the insignificant details.
13. He watches my TV shows even though I won't watch his.  (ex. He'll watch America's Next Top Model with me even though I won't watch Antiques Roadshow with him.)
14. He is fascinated with history and can watch a documentary on just about anything.
15. He lets me go to the grocery store by myself (i.e. no kids screaming and running around).
16. He lifts Jacob into the top bunk after he's fallen asleep somewhere else.
17. He is handy and can fix things around the house.
18. He loves woodworking and built us a beautiful entertainment center and dresser.
19. He spent an entire summer tearing apart and refinishing his great grandmother's piano.  Now we have a nice piano in our home.
20. He is a great father and really cares about what our kids are doing and learning.
21. He never complains if I spend too much money on something.
22. He trusts me with so many things.
23. He lets me take baths at night and doesn't let the kids bug me when I do.
24. He works hard to support our family.
25. He teaches great family night lessons even with no prep time.
26. He loves his calling in the nursery even though I thought it would make him crazy.
27. He is patient.
28. He loves doing family history and learning about his ancestors.
29. He is okay with never having a dog (since I hate them!)
30. He encourages me to pursue my hobbies and talents.
31. He believes in me more than I often believe in myself.
32. He's super cute!

Reading Baby

I saw this on my friend's blog and thought it was so cute.  Enjoy!
