Conquering the Beast

Okay, I have a confession to make.  I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I can't drive a stick shift car.  I've been taught a couple of different times and even done it on occasion, but not enough to feel comfortable to drive anywhere without going into cardiac arrest.  So, I promised Jermie a few months ago that I would learn to drive his car.  (It's becoming more and more inconvenient for me to always take the van- Especially if Jermie has all the kids and needs to go somewhere.)

So, tonight my mom and I went to the church parking lot across from Costco and practiced.  I stopped and started about 30 times (because that's the part that scares me the most).   I only stalled a couple of times.  After practicing, I decided to be brave and drive across the street to Costco.  Lucky for me I had a green light.  So I proceeded to cross the street and this big SUV tried to make a left turn without yielding to me.  I slowed down (even remembering to put the clutch in!) and honked at him and he stopped turning.  Once I got in the Costco parking lot, I took the first parking space I could find and stopped the car (even though we had to hike across the whole parking lot to get to the store).

Please, wish me luck- And be careful out there.  I just might be on the road!

Congrats! I'm a little jealous...it's physically impossible for me to drive a shift. Apparently you really should have all the muscles in your shoulder if you'd like to shift gears...oh well! You can always drive me, right?

Driving a stick is so much fun once you get used to it. I use to have the same fear of stalling. I was lucky in the fact I was forced to drive a stick shift since I grew up on a ranch.
